  1. א טייערע איד
and let’s not forget, he composed the tune of “Reach Out” on Jep 1, as אודך כי עניתני…

  2. He came from Atlanta, GA, where he was one of a small number of traditionally Sabbath observant youngsters when growing up.

Later went up to MD where he studied at NIRC.

Came out with a phonographic record (or more) of Jewish music in his youth.

Was a Jewish chaplain at Fairleigh Dickinson University at one time as well.

  3. BDE. I’m sorry to learn of this very sad besurah.i knew Rabbi Spivak for 40 yrs.
He loved ahm yisroel & eretz yisroel .He was an idealist with a lev tov. He will be missed ñot only by his family and friends but by his extended family of the many thousands who spent thousands of hours listening to his 4 decades if broadcasts We all considered him our friend..
We wont soon forget his iconic sign off with which we now salute our dear chaver Reb Yaakov zl:
Lihitraot( bkorov im beas goel tzedek,iyH)Shalom al yisroel and most of all my friend(s) CHAZAK!!
    To his wonderfull family:
May u be comforted by Hashem and take solace in knowing how many people the Rav zl helped, educated, trained, employed, guided, inspired, entertained and so much more.
Just as he was dynamic and not static in this world, may he be a mehalaich maaleh, maaleh in the oilam haemes.

  5. Ach, I never met him but enjoyed listening to him very much, our loss, but I could imagine seeing him standing in shomayim and arguing with malachim that “Mashiach needs to come right now!!”

  6. Rabbi Spivak ZTL was a wonderful and kind person. His Shul had the warm out of town flavor in the midst of Monsey. BDE

  7. “We wont soon forget his iconic sign off with which we now salute our dear chaver Reb Yaakov zl:

IIRC it was slightly different – Zeit gezunt, Lehitraot, Shalom al Yisroel, and most of all my friends, Chazak!

  8. Missing Rabbi Spivak…he was larger than life, literally to those lives he touched. He was our Rebbe, Navi teacher, musician, storyteller, philosopher, comedian and much more in the glory days of Hiroc in the 70’s…he later had a special joy in hearing that his son Aaron was my son’s rebbe as well….I’m sure R’Yaakov has by now composed songs to greet moshiach…
