It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rabbi Chaim Yitzchok Leib Eichenthal zt”l.

Reb Yitzchok, a son of Reb Efraim Fishel Eichenthal, was a renowned baal chesed, known in particular for his phenomenal hachnosas orchim. His home in Boro Park was a virtual reshus harabim, open to the thousands of guests who graced his table week after week for years. For half a century, R’ Yitzchok and his rebbetzin were one of Boro Park’s biggest machnisei orchim.

While R’ Yitzchok was an accountant by profession, his true occupation was that of chesed, as he devoted his days and nights to the needs of others together with his dedicated wife.

R’ Yitzchok was a brothe-in-law of Rav Chaim Yisroel Belsky zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Torah Vodaas, where R’ Yitzchok was a longtime mispallel and bal kriah during the Yomim Noraim.

R’ Yitzchok, after residing in Boro Park for decades, relocated in recent years to Lakewood.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bracha Eichenthal; his sister, Mrs. Rechel Pressman; his children, Mrs. Baila Ribiat, Mrs. Laya Ribiat, R’ Avrohom Eichenthal, R’ Yisroel Eichenthal, R’ Ahron Eichenthal, Mrs. Blimie Spanglet, Mrs. Rivky Diskind, Mrs. Nechamy Kaplan, Mrs. Sarah Alon, R’ Moshe Eichenthal, R’ Yaakov Eichenthal, R’ Binyomin Eichenthal, Mrs. Malkie Hirschman, Mrs. Miriam King and Mrs. Shulamis Greenberg; and many grandchildren.

The levayah will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Congregation Sons of Israel Holocaust Memorial Chapel, located at 613 Ramsey Street, off of East 7th Street, in Lakewood, NJ.

Yehi zichro boruch.

  1. ברוך דיין האמת
The joke in BP in the 70’s was, ” Avrohom Avinu had 4 doors to his home but the Eichenthals had many, many doors to their Sukka!”
    יהי זכרו ברוך

  2. I am particularly saddened by the passing of Rabbi Yitzchok Eichenthal, whom I knew so well. As a young single man, I often ate at his Shabbos table. I had the pleasure of hearing him lain (and often daven) at the shtiebel of the late Rabbi Codek Shaingarten, ztl, in Boro Park, where I was a regular mispallel until I had my aufruf there and moved to Boston. My wife and I were honored that Reb Yitzchok was one of the aidim under our chupah. I used to say that Yitzchok was almost like a chassidic rebbe, but without the title. He was known as a “walking kiddish haShem”. Our increasingly difficult world is in even worse shape without him.

  3. I remember in the 80s when his house had a fire. While his house was still burning he and his wife were busy trying to find a place for where his orchim could now stay.

  4. Please Note:
The aveilim are sitting Shiva at 358 E County Line Rd, Lakewood, NJ (between Princeton Ave & Monmouth Ave) starting Monday evening.

However, Mrs. Rechel Pressman will ONLY be sitting in Lakewood on MONDAY EVENING.
