It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rabbi Yosef Yisroel Mitnick z”l, longtime master rebbi and educator from Brooklyn, NY.

Rabbi Mitnick was an extraordinary mechanech, whose simchas hachaim and good cheer uplifted his many talmidim, infusing them with ahavas haTorah and ahavas Hashem. Generations of students remain grateful to him for the knowledge he imparted and the ruach that he brought with him every day.

The levayah will be held today at 2 p.m. at Shomrei Hadas Chapels, located at 3803 14th Avenue in Brooklyn, NY. The aron will pass Yeshivas Rabbeinu Chaim Berlin on Coney Island Avenue in Flatbush at 4:30 p.m. The aron will then be flown to Eretz Yisroel for kevurah on Har Hameunchos in Yerushalayim.

Rabbi Mitnick is survived by his wife, Mrs. Libby Mitnick, and a wonderful family of bnei and bnos Torah and grandchildren and great-grandchildren following in his ways.

The family will be sitting shivah at 1491 East 19th Street in Flatbush, Brooklyn.

Yehi zichro boruch.

  1. He was our dikduk Rebbe in Yeshiva of Brooklyn back in the late 70’s. Such a kind special man. Always friendly with us. Always smiling and joking.

  2. This is the father of the famous Mitch!
I remember when he and his brother Reb Yitzchok יבדלח”ח were both מלמדים in Torah Vodaath of Flatbush, currently Torah Temimah during the 60s.

  3. Borruch Dayan Emes.
I’m very sorry to see the sad news. I never knew him from yeshiva, just as a fine man and a kind neighbor, always with a smile and a good word to say when you passed him in the street. Yehi zichroi boruch.

  4. Would anyone know, just curious, is this the Rabbi Mitnick who lived in East Flatbush on East 54th street between Linden Blvd and Church Ave.?

    I remember him. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה
