rand paulSen. Rand Paul ended his 10-hour 30-minute filibuster of the Patriot Act on Wednesday night, after going through binders of material with help from 10 fellow senators.

The law is due to expire June 1, raising questions over the sweeping surveillance powers it grants.

“There comes a time in the history of nations when fear and complacency allow power to accumulate and liberty and privacy to suffer,” he said at the start. “That time is now and I will not let the Patriot Act, the most unpatriotic of acts, go unchallenged.”

Paul’s bipartisan aid team included seven Democrats and fellow Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz. Read more at CNN.
