Rep.-elect Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) announced she plans to wear a traditional Palestinian gown when she is sworn into Congress next month, THE HILL reports.

She made the announcement in a post on Instagram featuring a photo of the thobe on Friday.

“Sneak peek: This is what I am wearing when I am sworn into Congress,” Tlaib captioned the photo, in addition to the hashtags #PalestinianThobe and #ForMyYama — which means mother in Arabic.

Last month, Tlaib won Michigan’s 13th Congressional District, making her the first Palestinian-American woman to be elected to Congress.

  1. Let her honor her heritage, religion and ethnicity, gezunte heit. It’s when she starts in with promoting BDS and other antisemitic drivel that we have a problem.

  2. Its only a matter of time before a muslim is elected in NY and elsewhere. It would be wise for askanim to reach out to these politicians on matters we have in common. Theyll never agree with us on Israel but there is much more we can agree on.

  3. The people that voted for her deserve what is going to become of the country from the direction it is headed, but what about the rest of us?

  4. If she just called it some outfit worn by arabs then fine, but pretending to have a palestinian heritage is simply a lie. is no such thing as a country called palestine… as everyone (or most people with a bit of knowledge on middle eastern history) knows it was part of the British Mandate. All “Palestinians” are from jordanian, egyptian, iranian etc… origin, hereby invalidating what she is trying to do, which is display herself as something that is fake from the root.

  5. Becs.- I am an avid history researcher and I would like to call on you to also do some research. Palestine/ Philistine has been named as such since antiquity. Philistine towns such as Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Ekron and Gath are located in Palestine. The French Revolution caused many social upheavals that initiated Palestine being put up for auction and ultimately for purchase by the Rothschilds to make it “Israel”. This Zionist deception that Palestine doesn’t exist is just complete ignorance and a display of the lengths some groups are willing to go in the name of ignorance and intolerance to others.

  6. “Chana chaya”, how about you stop pretending to be Jewish just so that you can leave your antisemitic comments? I am actually fully aware that since the times of the Greeks the area in which ISRAEL is located was referred to as palestine, the only issue is delving into actual facts with a blind and rabid anti-semite would have to be completely useless and frankly a waste of my time… so heres some advice for you, Israel is her to stay, get used to it.

  7. Becs- I’m disappointed once again by your comment. If you really think that an “antisemite” would pose under a kedusha shem and slip past the comment moderator, you need an extra dose of Ahavas Yisroel. Bashing aside, You admit only after I make mention that yes, Palestine does exist and you know that. So why be angry and upset about that? Let the woman have her culture. As I recall, there are no “Israeli” cultural aspects around today that aren’t a product of Zionism. I am a very proud jew and was brought up by fellow proud jews. I’m advocating for better education in yeshivas as I see the system has failed you. The spelling is “here” as in “I’m here”, and showing animosity such as yours is just proof that the dawn of revitalizing our yeshivas to teach true torah and ahavas yisroel is HERE. so many errors in your ways….
