In the nationwide polls that don’t consider primary cycles, former President Donald Trump emerges as the clear favorite to become the Republican nominee next year, garnering strong support from a wide majority.
According to the latest Rasmussen Reports poll, Trump enjoys a commanding lead with 57% support. The closest competitor is Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who stands at 13%, trailing Trump by a substantial 44 points.
This sizeable margin of 34.4 percentage points over DeSantis and other contenders, as tracked by RealClear Politics’ polling average, represents the largest lead recently recorded. Notably, Trump’s lead has been on an upward trend, with the three most recent polls showing him ahead by over 40 points.
While DeSantis performs relatively well in the Quinnipiac University and Yahoo! News polls, with 25% and 23% support respectively, he still lags behind Trump by 29 and 25 points in those surveys.
