It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rav Aharon Dovid Chodosh zt”l, beloved mashgiach of Yeshivas Mir Yerushalayim. He was 90 years old.
Rav Chodosh had battled illness for a while and was at Shaarei Tzedek Medical Center, where he was on a ventilator. As his condition deteriorated tonight, his family gathered around him to be present for yetzias haneshomah.
Rav Chodosh was a son of Rav Meir Chodosh, mashgiach of Yeshivos Chevron, Ateres Yisroel and Ohr Elchonon.
Rav Chodosh was a son-in-law of Rav Chaim Zev Finkel, who was a son of the Mirrer rosh yeshiva, Rav Leizer Yudel Finkel.
Rav Chodosh’s mother, Rebbetzin Tziviah, was a daughter of Rav Naftali Menachem and Rebbetzin Kreina Hutner.
Rav Chodosh was one of five children of Rav Meir and Rebbetzin Tziviah. His siblings were Rav Moshe Mordechai Chodosh, Rav Naftali Chodosh, Rav Yosef Chodosh, and Rebbetzin Shulamis Ezrachi, wife of Rav Boruch Mordechai Ezrachi.
Rav Chodosh served for over 55 years as the mashgiach of Mir Yerushalayim, where he influenced and inspired thousands of bochurim. Rav Chodosh took a personal interest in talmidim, worrying about their wellbeing, both b’ruchniyus and b’gashmiyus, and would do anything for a talmid.
He eschewed all worldly pleasures and lived with utmost simplicity, needing so very little to subsist on. He was a living example to the talmidim of the Mir of the mussar and hashkafah that he imparted in his shmuessen.
The levayah will be held on Thursday at noon at Yeshivas Mir Yerushalayim. Only family and rabbonim will be permitted entry to the building. Kevurah will follow on Har Hamenuchos.
