It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rav Aharon Zaks zt”l, rosh yeshiva of the Slabodka Yeshiva L’tzeirim in Bnei Brak. He passed away Wednesday evening at the Maayanei HaYeshua Hospital in Bnei Brak. He was 82.

Rav Zaks was hospitalized at the beginning of the month of Shevat after suffering from shortness of breath. At the hospital, he suffered a heart attack.

At Slabodka Yeshiva, Tehillim were recited all the time for his complete and quick recovery, and the name Refoel was added as a zechus, but last night his neshama returned to its Creator.

Rav Zaks was born in Yerushalayim on the 9th of Tammuz 1934 to his father, Rav Chaim Eliyahu Zalman Zaks zt”l, a tzaddik from the Yerushalayim Shel Maalah, and his mother, Rebbetzin Esther Leah.

After Talmud Torah, he learned at Yeshivas Etz Chaim. He was one of the first students at the Slabodka Yeshiva, where he had a close kesher with the rosh yeshiva, Rav Eizik Sher zt”l.

When he reached marriageable age, he married a daughter of Rav Yosef Landau zt”l.

Rav Zaks is a brother-in-law of the Slabodka rosh yeshiva, Rav Dov Landau, and a brother of the late rosh yeshiva, Rav Amram Yitzchok Zaks zt”l.

He spent many years being marbitz Torah at the yeshiva and taught thousands of talmidim. His devotion to his students knew no bounds. He was a gaon in chesed as well. He was one of the first founders of the kupot cholim in the charedi sector.

The levaya was held this morning at the Slabodka Yeshiva in Bnei Brak and then at his home at 10 Sokolov Streetbefore passing the Heligman Shul on its way to Shamgar in Yerushalayim and Har Hamenuchos for kevurah there.
