rav-akiva-ehrenfeldIt is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rav Akiva Ehrenfeld zt”l, nosi of Yeshiva Bais Shmuel in Yerushalayim.

Rav Akiva was a son of the Mattesdorfer Rov, Rav Shmuel Ehrenfeld zt”l, and was instrumental is assisting his father in the founding and establishing of Kiryat Mattesdorf in Yerushalayim, of which he was the nosi.

Rav Akiva was also the nosi of Kollel Shomrei Hachomos-Reb Meir Baal Hanes, among his many other roles in tzorchei tzibbur and chessed.

Rav Akiva, who was 89, was a phenomenal masmid and spent his days immersed in Torah learning, humbly and quietly, while also devoting himself wholly to the klal.

He leaves behind a family of bnei Torah and marbitzei Torah. His only son, Rav Yitzchok Yechiel Ehrenfeld, is the rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Bais Shmuel. Rav Akiva’s brother, Rav Simcha Bunim Ehrenfeld of Boro Park, is the current Mattesdorfer Rov.

The levaya is being held at Yeshiva Bais Shmuel on Rechov Ponim Meiros in Kiryat Mattesdorf. Kevurah will follow on Har Hamenuchos, where Rav Akiva will be interred next to his illustrious father.

  1. Boruch Dayan HaEmes. Most sadly, his nephew, also named Akiva, son of Reb Simca Bunim, Matersdorfer Rav, passed away just a few short weeks ago in Lakewood. Chaval al D’avdin. May HaShem grant us only simchas.

  2. #1: Yes they have a shul and yeshiva in boro park. it’s called Ch’san Sofer and it’s located on 19 and 50th. It’s run by Rav Simcha Bunim Ehrenfeld Shlit”a, a brother of ybl”c Rav Akiva zt”l
