rav-boruch-shimon-salomon-small-small1It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rav Boruch Shimon Salomon zt”l, rov of Petach Tikvah for 30 years and rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Nachlas Dovid there. He was 70.

Rav Boruch Shimon was born to Rav Dovid Salomon, rov of Kfar Avrohom, and learned in Yeshiva Ohr Yisroel before going to Yeshivas Chevron at the tender age of 13. After his marriage, he moved to Petach Tikvah, and with the subsequent passing of his father, he was named rov of Kfar Avrohom in Petach Tikvah.

In 1979, he was appointed as the Ashkenazi chief rabbi of Petach Tikvah. Rav Boruch Shimon displayed tremendous emunah and gevurah during his years in the rabbonus, fighting for shemiras Shabbos and increased observance of Yiddishkeit against great opposition.

Rav Boruch Shimon’s brother related, “He was born on Shabbos and he was niftar on Erev Shabbos. Everything about his life revolved around Shabbos.”

He devoted untold hours to limud haTorah and was well-versed in Shas and poskim.

rav-boruch-shimon-salomon-small1At the levaya, Rav Yosef Efrati, confidante of Marav Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, related that he was sent several times by Rav Elyashiv to assist Rav Boruch Shimon in his efforts to increase religious observance and in dealing with those opposed to the chareidi lifestyle.

The levaya was held this morning at Yeshiva Nachlas Dovid on Rechov Reines in Petach Tikvah. Maspidim included Rav Efrati, Rav Piltz, Rosh Yeshivas Tifrach; and the niftar‘s brother, Rav Yehoshua Salomon. Kevurah took place in the Segulah Bais Olam in Petach Tikvah. He leaves behind an illustrious family.

Yehi zichro boruch.
