An inspiring incident occurred last Thursday with Rav Chaim Kanievsky, demonstrating his remarkable connection to Torah.
Rav Chizkiyahu Mishkovsky related that he spoke to Rav Chaim’s physician, Dr. Meshulam Hart, who related that Rav Chaim recently had “an illness that doctors cannot cure.”
Rav Mishkovsky was concerned until Dr. Hart explained: “Rav Chaim felt very unwell. He was barely speaking. Everyone was concerned.
“A member of the family asked Rav Chaim what the matter is. What are his symptoms? Why is feeling weak? Rav Chaim explained, ‘There is a Tosafos that I am having trouble understanding.’”
The cause of Rav Chaim’s weakness was his struggle with the meaning of the Tosafos.
The doctor related: “The next morning, Rav Chaim was feeling okay, as he had resolved his difficulty with the Tosafos. As I mentioned, an illness due to a Tosafos difficulty – doctors do not have a cure for such an illness.”

There is a similar story with Rav Ovadiah Yosef. When he was in hospital a big Litvisher Rav came to visit him and spent a lot of time at the hospital. He explained that he wanted to try and get Rav Ovadiah’s sickness. His love of the Torah Holas Ahavah.
