Rav Chaim Kanievsky’s personal copy of a sefer he authored, Shoneh Halachos – handwritten on 237 pages – was sold this week at a public auction for $471,200.
The manuscript was sold by the Genazim auction house, which told the manuscript for $370,000, plus a commission of 24% and VAT on the commission, with the amount reaching the aforementioned $471,200.
At the end of the sefer, Rav Chaim wrote:
“סיימתי בעזה”י מוצש”ק פ’ שקלים כ”ח שבט תשל”ה תם ונשלם שבח לאל בורא עולם ספר שונה הלכות”.

Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky listed the Table of Contents on the title page in beautiful large block letters. The sefer contains Hilchos Yom Tov, Chol Hamoed, Tisha B’Av, Taanis, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Succah and Lulav, Chanukah and Megillah.
The cover is autographed C. Kanievsky, and autographed again on the back cover with Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky’s full name for davening.
At the end of the sefer he inscribes: “Completed with the help of Hashem Yisborach on Motza’ei Shabbos Kodesh Parshas Shekalim, 28th of Shevat, 1975.
Finished and completed, may K-l, the Creator of the World, be praised”
