The ceremony was held in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Yerushalayim. It was 40 years to the day that Chacham Ovadiah himself became chief rabbi.

Rav Shalom Cohen, a member of Shas’ Moetzet Chachmei Hatorah and rosh yeshiva of Yeshivat Porat Yosef, told Deputy Religious Services Minister Eli Ben Dahan of the Habayit Hayehudi party, “I hope your reputation, Eli Ben Dahan, is better than just being deputy religious services minister, because that crown is like a chamber pot that infants dirty themselves in, and you’re putting it on your heads.”

Rav Cohen also said that Habayit Hayehudi should “do real honor to the Rishon Letzion” by forbidding women from serving as heads of municipal religious councils.
