Rav Dov Landau, the rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Slabodka, recently met with relatives of those currently held hostage by Hamas in Gaza. During the meeting, he offered brachos to the families and discussed the ongoing efforts to secure the release of their loved ones.
Mishpacha Magazine released video footage from this meeting, in which Rav Landau was asked about Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu’s concerns regarding any deal that could potentially heighten security risks.
“I’m not a political person. Maybe if they had abducted the Prime Minister’s son, what would have he done?” Rav Landau wondered aloud.
This occasion marked the first time the rosh yeshiva has publicly addressed the situation.

I would hope that Netanyahu would be doing the same thing and not giving in to terror. We all learned the hard way from the Shalit deal
Notice, the rosh yeshiva SHLITA didn’t state a Halachik opinion.
Of course the Rish Yeshivah didn’t state a Halachic opinion. He responded “ Al Regel AchaT” and obviously it was not meant to be a descisive ruling
I could bet 100% that if Netanyahu’s son was abducted, a ceasefire would have taken place day 1 for his return
If it was his son there would be no more Gaza.
Under those circumstances, he’d be a נוגע בדבר and would not be able to issue a decision, just like any posek [lehavdil] would not be able to pasken when he is נוגע בדבר.
American law prevents a President from rendering decisions if his/her own family is held hostage and Israeli law is probably the same.
