rav-elyashiv2Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv remains hospitalized at Shaarei Tzedek Medical Center in Yerushalayim and will, Matzav.com has learned, likely remain there until after Shabbos.   Rav Elyashiv is receiving medications and a meeting held this morning by doctors will help form a course of treatment for the posek hador.

As reported here yesterday, Rav Elyashiv arrived at the hospital with a high fever and suffering from a heavy cough. After a series of tests, physicians began to administer antibiotics.

The hospital staff has assigned Rav Elyashiv a special area in the CTU heart wing of the hospital.

The staff has stressed, however, that Rav Elyashiv is not, chas veshalom, suffering from heart problems, but that this is where he has been placed.

Those close to Rav Elyashiv related to reporters that after being hospitalized, Rav Elyashiv began to learn in bed.

Rav Elyashiv’s doctor was first called to his home last night at 6:30 p.m. after he wasn’t feeling well. At 7 p.m. attendees of Rav Elyashiv’s daily shiur began to gather at his bais medrash and Maariv followed at 7:15. After Maariv, however, it was announced that the shiur would not take place. Tehillim was then said by those in the bais medrash, led by Rav Tzvi Weissfish, a talmid of Rav Elyashiv and rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Haran.

Rav Elyashiv’s personal doctor said right away that the gadol‘s condition is “stable and not worrisome, and that because of his advanced age and accompanying ills, he must receive antibiotics at the hospital, but that it is hoped that he will have a complete recovery soon.”

The public is asked to continue davening for a refuah sheleimah for Rav Yosef Shalom ben Chaya Musha.
