rav-elyashiv2Approximately seven years ago, the posek hador, Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, underwent surgery to seal off a major artery near his heart. An international heart expert now has determined that the artery has weakened. On Sunday, as first reported earlier this week here on Matzav.com, Rav Elyashiv will be taken to Shaare Tzedek Medical Center in Yerushalayim, where surgery will be performed by the world-renowned expert in heart treatment from the United States.

The cardiologist analyzed Rav Elyashiv seven years ago after he was admitted to intensive care with real danger to his life. The physician, flown from the United States, identified the problematic artery causing intensive bleeding. The multi-hour surgery was deemed a success.

After recently feeling weakness, Rav Elyashiv was admitted to Shaarei Tzedek for extensive testing. The tests were sent for a second opinion to the offices of the expert cardiologist in Manhattan. The doctor pointed out that the artery that was identified seven years ago as being the source of concern is now weak.

Last Thursday, the family of Rav Elyashiv met with doctors to set a date for the surgery, which will be performed under local anesthesia this Sunday, with the doctor flying to Israel to perform the operation.

All are asked to daven for Rav Yosef Shalom ben Chaya Musha.

As reported here on Matzav.com, on Rosh Chodesh Nissan, Rav Elyashiv marked his 101st birthday.

May Hakadosh Boruch Hu give Rav Elyashiv kochos and gezunt to continue leading Klal Yisroel for many, many more years, amidst good health.

  1. Seven years ago the doctor was in Manhattan, now he’s in the Cleveland Clinic. He’s from the chasidei umops ha’olam. He should have siyata d’shamaya in his work.
