  1. Although it is currently popular to demean Rav Kook. it was not like that in the past.

Rabbi Ribner is assuming that if there are legitimate issues with Rav Kook it inherently means that he is not am Odom Godol [Possibly influenced by Rabbi AY Haleivy… as is sometimes the case with Rav Ribner]

    This is not so.

Rav Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld had real issues with Rav Kook, that did not stop him from receiving a Brachah from him every year Erev Rosh Hashanna.

The Chofetz Chaim AND the Brisker Rov wrote very worthy titles to Rav Kook in their letters. OF COURSE they both had issues with Rav Kooks hashkaffah.

More Importantly, Rav Ribner summarily dismisses Rav Kook’s influence on Rav Hutner.

Rav Hutner’s is the first Yeshiva produced Godol with this Beautiful MACHSHAVA derech.

Rav Kook’s main attraction to the TALMIDEI CHACHAMIM was [NOT his interesting approach to zionism etc.] his Loftiness in Machshava & Heart that he expressed & Preached.

It DOES stand to reason that Rav Hutner WAS introduced to this Mehalech from Rav Kook.

  2. I seem to recall that one of the seforim that R’ Shlomo Zalman printed in the early 1930s also had this issue with the Haskomos being removed.
Either his sefer on Shmita or the one on electricity had a Haskama from someone (maybe Rav Kook ?) and when the sefer was reprinted after R’ S.A. petirah it was mysteriously “missing”….

    • I challenge you to that claim about the missing haskoma in RSA`s sefer
Exactly which edition are you talking about ?
Also, Rabbi Ribner very smoothly wisks aways Rav Hutner`s connection with Rav Kook but those in the know understand that many teachings of Rav Kook are found in Pachad Yitzchak.
It is said over that for this reason there are no mention of any sifrei achronim by name in the entire series

  3. why would rav hutner get a haskama from rav kook if he didn’t hold of him??
read marc shapiro’s new book about rav kook and you’ll start understanding what rav kook was really all about.
whether your pro or anti – you’ll see that we’re not just dealing with a godol who had unconventional shitos about Zionism etc.. we’re dealing with a whole different matter entirely…

  4. Isn’t it highly problematic for a rabbi to ask for a Haskama, get it, print it, then delete it in next edition with no explanation ? Can we have a shiyur about that ?

  5. I saw in an article by Rabbi Yischak Rudomin wrote in article about Rav Hutner Zt”l “During his early time in Eretz Yisrael Rav Hutner did not limit himself to the confines of the Slabodka/Chevron Yeshiva only. Given his natural intellectual curiosity, thirst for Torah wisdom and a desire to learn from a wide range of rabbis and sources, Rav Hutner connected with Rav Kook and the result was a sort of an epiphany, a profound, deep and super-spiritual connection between the two. Rav Kook became a powerful natural mentor and “soul mate” of Rav Hutner reaching to the depths of his soul which was reciprocated by Rav Kook.”
