  1. I am not qualified to disagree with the Rav’s halachic decision. But I do find the response disturbing. With all the halachic technicalities about tefiloh bitzibbur, there remains a requirement that one daven with kavanah, and that one must be completely conscious and aware that he is speaking to HKB”H throughout the entire davening. I did not hear the concern or recognition of this. So if the extra time and effort that was invested in davening enabled that precious relationship that is the true tachlis of tefiloh to occur, perhaps the ruling would be different. The Rav’s discussion seems to have omitted this. Even if the psak would be correct as given, this issue should not have been ignored. It is a serious issue that even the total adherence to the halachic technicalities does not render a tefiloh a successful venture without the requisite emotional involvement.

  2. Please learn Rabeina Yoina shaarei tshuvah, sefer hachinuch in many places.
Yidishkeit was NEVER based on scholarship, it’s based on belief and tradition from our forefathers.
Why does Rav Gershon Shlit”a think he has the right to educate klal yisroel on what yidishkeit is, WE ARE NOT BAALEI TESHUVA!!. Whether your mesorah is from the Lita, Yekkes, Oiberland, Galiciana, Poilish or Hungarian, we know what yidishkeit is based on. Please don’t try reinventing the wheel.

  3. Spoken like a litvak who forgot that yiddishkeit survived Eastern European haskala predominantly with chasidus and inspiration. There were plenty of Scholarly Maskilim. Of course we need true Talmidei Chachamim but “amcha” survives golus thru inspiration. Unfortunately, the bochurim love him and drink his Kool Aid hook line and sinker.

  4. The Brisker Rov and his children zt”l did not daven with a minyan on a daily basis, because they felt they would have more kavona davening at home. How does R Ribner explain that?
