It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rav Nosson Yehuda Leib (Leibel) Mintzberg zt”l, head of Kehal Adas Yerushalayim-Yeshivas HaMasmidim. He was in his high 70s and passed away at Shaarei Tzedek Medical Center in Yerushalayim.

Rav Mintzberg was born in Yerushalayim, a son of Rav Elimelech Mintzberg. During the Israeli war of independence, when Rav Mintzberg was 5 years old, his father was killed. He grew up in the home of Rav Yisroel Yitzchok Reisman zt”l, dayan on the Eidah Hachareidis. As a bochur he learned and became a madrich at Yeshivas HaMasmidim under Rav Avrohom Leib Klein.

When he became of marriageable age, he married his wife, a daughter of Rav Eliezer Dovid Brand, one of the heads of Machon Otzar Haposkim. He first learned at Kollel Kamenitz under Rav Mordechai Elefant and then at Kollel Megaleh Amukos-Lev Yehuda.

Rav Mintzberg, a noted talmid chochom and mashpiah, was ultimately chosen to lead the Kehal Adas Yerushalayim community, better known by its original name, Yeshivas HaMasmidim, which has been a bastion of Torah and yirah in Yerushalayim for decades.

Yeshivas HaMasmidim was masterminded by a remarkable man of chesed, Reb Yosef Eichler, who together with Rav Avrohom Leib Klein established a Torah and mussar framework which constituting a blend of the finest of the Lithuanian yeshivos with an intense Chassidic experience. The unique result captured many hearts and attracted an entire generation of Yerushalmim. The small bais medrash grew and became a large community.

The life force of the community was Rav Mintzberg, who led it for the past 33 years, with institutions in Yerushalayim, Modiin, Beit Shemesh, Beitar and Tiveriah.

Rav Mintzberg is survived by his children, Rav Elimelech Mintzberg, menahel of Talmud Torah Tzon Kodoshim in Beitar; Rav Boruch Mordechai Mintzberg, R’ Shlomie Mintzberg, and Mrs. Hirschman, wife of Rav Matisyahu Hirschman.

The levayah will take place this afternoon at Yeshivas HaMasmidim on Rechov Minchas Yitzchok in Yerushalayim.

Yehi zichro boruch.

  1. As a neighbor of the yeshiva and shul I can say that I was highly impressed by his talmidim; there is always a huge kol torah coming out of the windows; the sounds were so soothing and pleasant. Davening in his shul during the yamim noraim are also extremely special. I would always see him walking into the yeshiva and my husband would tell the kids ; here goes a huge talmid chochom, a man that despite not having it easy is saved by his torah.
very sad that he was niftar; may he be a meilitz yosher.
