  1. I was also at the shiur. Regarding your second point, although he gave Rav Chaim Kanievsky as an example of “baalei hamesorah”, his main point – that no baalei hamesorah have given even the slightest hint of support for women rabbis – equally applies to the YU gedolim – Rav Hershel Schachter, Rav Aharon Lichtestsein – and every other substantial talmid chacham in the YU world – not one of them supports women rabbis.

    Regarding your first point, although he did not go into detail about why the serara/authority issue applies today even though in the surrounding culture women do assume positions of authority, he was clearly taking for granted that women being in a religious position of authority is a problem. Would he say that about a secular position (e.g. – an exec in a business)? Can’t prove definitively one way or another from the shiur.
