rav-meir-bransdorferIt is with great sadness that we report the passing of Harav Meir Bransdorfer zt”l, a member of the Badatz of the Eidah Hachareidus of Yerushalayim. Hatzolah members had rushed to Rav Bransdorfer’s house on Rechov Shivtei Yisroel shortly after 10 o’clock this morning. The medics performed CPR for approximately 40 minutes, and were instructed by the Gaon Av Beis Din of the Eidah Hachareidis, Rav Yitzchok Tuvia Wiess, to continue with their efforts to revive Rav Bransdorfer. Rav Weiss was joined by others in reciting Tehillim at Rav Bransdorfer’s home. A Magen Dovid Adom physician related the news that Rav Bransdorfer has passed away.

Rav Bransdorfer was born in Belgium 74 years ago, on 25 Elul 5694, to his parents, Rav and Rebbetzin Shlomo Bransdorfer. He moved to Eretz Yisroel at the age of 12. He authored the sefer Knei Bosem, which contains his shailos and teshuvos, and was the rov of Kehillas Toldos Avrohom Yitzchok, in addition to being one of the renowned poskim in Eretz Yisroel and heading the shechitah division of the Badatz of the Eidah hachareidis.

Rav Bransdorfer is survived by his children, including his sons, Rav Shmuel, rov of Kehillas Tiferes Hanachal and dayan for the Eidah hachareidis in Bet Shemesh; Rav Yosef Kadish, Rav Chaim Elazar, Rav Moshe and Rav Yitzchok; and his daughters, the wives of Rav Yosef Samet, Rav Chaim Meir Kohn (a son of the Toldos Avrohom Yitzchok Rebbe), a son of the Stropkover Rebbe and others.

The levaya will be held tomorrow, at 11 a.m. in Yerushalayim. Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.

  1. I met him when i was a bochur in Eretz Yisroel. he asked me what i was learning and gave me a bracha that i should be zoche to be a true eved hashem. you could tell that he meant it. he was obviously a special yid.

    I had the zechus to goi to a weekly shiur from him; and had the zechus that he should be be the mohel for my son.
    He was a remarkbly wonderful person who was a true eved Hashem. His godlus in torah, yiras shamayim,midos and unwavering comitment to the rozton Hashem without personal negios is truly something we all can learn from.

  3. His Ahavas Yisroel and concern for Yiddn who are in minority or discriminated against(like Londonistan or Belarus)was also remarkable
