Rav Meier Stefansky zt”l

It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rav Meier Stefansky zt”l of Monsey, NY. He was 85.

A talmid of Rav Aharon Kotler zt”l, under whom he learned at Bais Medrash Govoah in Lakewood, NJ, Rav Meier was also very close to Rav Elazar Menachem Man Shach zt”l and the Steipler Gaon, Rav Yaakov Yisroel Kanievsky zt”l, who he would drive and often accompany to public events.

In addition to residing in Monsey, Rav Meier had a home in Bnei Brak.

Rav Meier’s ahavas haTorah was manifest in his dedication to limud haTorah and his support of numerous mosdos haTorah and bnei Torah in the United States and Eretz Yisroel. His chesed was also carried out through a gemach in Israel operated by his son.

In recent months, he was hospitalized in the United States and his condition deteriorated.

The wedding of his grandson, a son of his son-in-law and daughter, Rabbi and Mrs. Spitzer, is taking place tonight in Yerushalayim.

Rav Meier is survived by his wife, Ruth, and their wonderful family. One of his sons is Rav Yaakov Stefansky, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Torah Vetifarta in Eretz Yisroel. Another is Rav Dovid Stefansky of Yeshiva Ohr Reuven of Monsey.
