With great sadness, Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rav Menachem Mendel Yitzchok Halevi Belsky zt”l.

A son of Rabbi and Mrs. Dov Belsky zt”l, Rav Mendel was the former rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Gedolah of Midwood in Brooklyn, NY. He dedicated over a quarter of a century to teaching, raising, and molding countless talmidim, always carrying himself with great humility and gentility. His impact on his talmidim, and the Torah community at large, was profound.

In his later years, Rav Mendel endured various health challenges and yissurim with tremendous emunah, bitachon, and equanimity. His steadfastness in the face of physical difficulties served as an inspiration to all who knew him. He spent his final years living in Lakewood, in the West Gate neighborhood.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Mrs. Masha Belsky, his children, and his grandchildren. His children are R’ Yisroel Belsky, R’ Binyomin Belsky, R’ Yehoshua Belsky, R’ Boruch Belsky, R’ Dovid Belsky, R’ Shneur Belsky, R’ Chaim Belsky, R’ Yaakov Belsky, Mrs. Kaufman, Mrs. Leibowitz, and Mrs. Zentman. He is also survived by his siblings, Mrs. Eichenthal, Mrs. Barkin, Mrs. Biegeleisen, Mrs. Zimbal, and Mrs. Biron.

The levayah will take place today at 2:00 p.m. at the Congregation Sons of Israel Holocaust Memorial Chapel, located at 613 Ramsey Avenue in Lakewood, NJ, followed by the kevurah in the adjacent Mt. Sinai Cemetery.

The family will be sitting shivah at his home, located at 88 Kingsfield Drive in Lakewood, NJ.

Yehi zichro boruch.

  1. BDE. As a talmid in his Yeshiva, coming from Australia, Rabbi Belsky took me in. He made sure I had food to eat and place in the Yeshiva dormitory. Any problem or questions I had, Rabbi Belsky solved it for me. He took me to get berachos from gedolei Yisroel such as Rav Pam ztz”l, and even took me with him as he went to collect money to support the Yeshiva. This wasn’t just a one call a day collection. We went to the tallest buildings in Manhattan and physically showing up face to face with potential contributors. He did this with a love and with all his energy. It was inspiring to see On Shabbos, he took me to Torah V’Daas with him. But most importantly he was there for me emotionally, giving me support and encouraging me to learn. I will always be grateful. BDE.

  2. Rabbi Belsky came through in the most trying times. Not only for his own talmidim bit even for the siblings and family of his talmidim.
