rabbi-metzgerIsraeli Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Rav Yonah Metzger says that the shechitah in Argentina – from where 80% of the meat in Eretz Yisroel originates – is 100% kosher and is no less mehudar than shechitah that is under the hashgacha of the Badatz of the Eidah Hachareidis.

The statement by Rav Metzger was made following a trip to Argentina, during which the Chief Rabbi visited the shlachthoisen there.

The Argentina shechitah is under the kashrus supervision of the Rabbanut. Rav Metzger was accompanied on his trip by Rav Ezra Harari-Raful of the Rabbanut.

Rav Metzger did state that, in his opinion, a change should be made in the manner that treife meat is discarded in Argentina. Until now, meat that is treif is simply thrown away. Rav Metzger said that such meat should be marked clearly as being treif to prevent any mix-ups.

  1. It’s self evident that as the RAMOH says in hilchos nikur…”These things you can’t learn from the seforim, you must learn in from the experts (mumchim). The chief Rabbi should bring allong a “mumcha” next time.

  2. By the Aidah & Rav Rubin’s shechitas they bring allong a Rabanut rep that decides which meat is still acceptable to the Rabanut, even when the Aida or Rav Rubin decided it’s not up to their standards. So yes, the Rabanut’s shechita (at times) is the same shoichtim, bodkim, menakrim as the Rabanut.

  4. I knew it wouldnt be long before those that think they know better (#1) would crawl out of the woodwork to blast Rav Metzger.
