Lakewood bnei Torah are excited to announce an eye-opening roster of in-depth shiurim on the topic of Kashrus in the Dairy Industry in anticipation of Shavuos, delivered by the top talmdiei chachamim who are experts in the field. The evening will take place on Monday May 20/15 Iyar at 7:30 p.m. at the yeshiva, on 120 Second Street.

Rav Mordechai Gross shlita, the Gaavad of the Chanichei Hayeshivos community in Bnei Brak and head of the Badatz Vaadas Mehadrin, will deliver a shiur in Yiddish on issues relevant to dairy production, including enzymes, growth mediums and automation. Rabbi Gross has over 20 years of experience in kashrus supervision, and as a close talmid of the posek hador, Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv ztz”l, is intimately familiar with the halachos related to kashrus in today’s high-tech food industries.

In addition, Rabbi Yehoshua Horwitz shlita, Rav of the Belzer beis medrash in Bnei Brak and a member of the Badatz Vaadas Mehadrin, will give a shiur in English on kashrus strategies in modern dairy facilities; and Rabbi Menachem Genack, rabbinic administrator of the OU’s Kashrus Division, will give a shiur in English on bishul and hana’ah relating to basar b’chalav derabbanan.

Talmidei chachamim, laymen, and all who are interested in kashrus are encouraged to take advantage of this one-time opportunity.

  3. Lichvod HaRav Gross SHLIT”A:

The OU certifies over 1,000 coffee creamers, which are labeled “NON-DAIRY” in big bold letters. A careful reading of the ingredients (in fine print) shows that they contain casein, a MILK derivative!

I believe this is “Lifnei Iver Lo Sitain Michshol”!

The OU refuses to correct this. What does the Rov recommend?

    • he is nor coming to talk about all milk products. you won’t get an answer about that.
he is coming to promote tenuva products (he gives the hashgacha on it)

    • OU non-dairy creamers are labeled OU-D, anyone who cares about Kashrus will see the D and know that it has dairy ingredients

    • This is government requirement, not a Kashrus agency issue.

You are misunderstanding the issue. The word “Creamer” implies to the AVERAGE non-Jewish consumer, that it is made of cream. If it is not really cream, but called “creamer”, the government requires that it honestly state that it is something else other than cream. In this case “non-dairy”. The kashrus agencies have NO control over this.

A different way of stating this is that it is called non-dairy because it does not have enough dairy to be called just creamer.
