The Rebbe of Vizhnitz Bnei Brak visited Rav Moshe Sternbuch today, speaking to him about the Meron tragedy and the duty of the hour after such a tzarah.

Rav Sternbuch told the Rebbe that Hashem shakes us so that we may repent.

At the beginning of the conversation, the Rebbe thanked Rav Sternbuch for his visit to the Viznitzer Bais Medrash on Pesach,

During their conversation, Rav Sternbuch said to the Rebbe: “This is idna derischa, when all of Klal Yisroel is in mourning, and the degree of justice is demanding, and we need the mercy of Heaven. Some time ago, we were hit by the corona pandemic. Now, we’ve been struck with a tragedy near the holy place of Kever Rashbi while Jews were in the middle of prayer, and all this is to shake us and warn us that we must do teshuvah. ”

The Rebbe replied: “After all, Rashbi said that he could exempt the whole world from the middas hadin, and Hakadosh Boruch Hu is all merciful.”

Rav Sternbuch added: “I am afraid of the future, for the Torah says, “Im telchu imi b’keri, and do not hear Me, and I will inflict on you punishment for your sins. Troubles come to wake us up to repentance. When we don’t repent, we ‘invite’ Hashem to wake us up more.”

Rav Sternbuch added, “Orphans and widows are left behind, the grief is great, and we cannot understand the ways of Hashem. I remember that after the war, there was a meeting about what Hashem wanted from bringing the Holocaust, and the late Rav (Yechezkel) Abramsky banged on the table and said, ‘We do not judge Hakadosh Boruch Hu,’ and “we cannot understand the ways of Hashem.”
