rabbi-lieffAs reported here on Matzav.com this past week, Harav Moshe Tuvia Lieff recently spent Shabbos in Flatbush as a guest of the Agudas Yisroel Bais Binyomin, located at Avenue L and Nostrand Avenue. During his visit, Rav Lieff delivered numerous shiurim and spoke several times over Shabbos. The kehillah has now officially announced the Rav Lieff will take over as mara d’asrah of the shul, which had been led until recently by Rav Pinchos Breuer, who, after a decade as rov, moved to Eretz Yisroel to become rosh yeshiva at a mosad haTorah there.

Rav Breuer took over as rov of Agudah of Avenue L after the petirah of Rav Yitzchok Isbee zt”l, the beloved rov of the shul who was niftar after suffering from illness.

Word that Rav Lieff, the venerable rov of Cong. Bais Yisroel in Minneapolis, Minnesota, would be moving to Flatbush has spread over the past few weeks and was greeted by local residents with great joy. His departure from the Minneapolis kehillah which he has served with such distinction will surely be felt by his mispallelim and admirers back home, as Rav Lieff has inspired the community there for close to two decades. It was Rav Lieff, a close talmid of the Mirrer Rosh Yeshiva, Harav Shmuel Berenbaum, from whom he received Yoreh Yoreh Yadin Yadin semicha, as well as Harav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach, who secured seed-funding from Torah Umesorah, which eventually resulted in the founding of the Minneapolis Community Kollel, a jewel in the Minnapolis community. Rav Lieff, who spent nine years as a member of the Telshe Kollel in Cleveland, where he also served as the mesivta‘s eleventh grade maggid shiur, is responsible for transforming Minneapolis into a veritable Torah center.

A dynamic speaker and respected talmid chochom, Rav Lieff’s acceptance of the position as mara d’asra of the Agudah of Avenue L has brought much excitement to the members of the shul, the Flatbush community, and greater Northeast Torah community.
