rav-nachum-kookIt is with great sadness that we report the passing today of Rav Nachum Hakohen Kook zt”l, who served for many years as rov of the Tel Ganim neighborhood in Ramat Gan and led the Rabbanut of Ramat Gan for decades.

In his youth, Rav Kook learned at the Heichal Hatalmud kollel in Tel Aviv, gaining renown as a tremendous talmid chochom.

Rav Kook was a brother to Rav Simcha Hakohen Kook, rov of Rechovot; Rav Avrohom Yitzchok Kook, rosh yeshiva of Meor Hatalmud in Rechovot, and lhbcl”c Rav Shlomo Kook zt”l, former rov of Rechovot. Rav Kook was a son-in-law of Rav Shmuel Abramowitz, rov of Ramat Yitzchok in Ramat Gan.

Rav Nachum’s sons are Rav Dov Kook of Tiveriah, a son-in-law of Rav Yitzchok Zilberstein; Rav Shmuel Kook of Bnei Brak; and Rav Avrohom Yitzchok Kook of Yerushalayim.

Rav Kook’s father, Rav Refoel Kook, learned at the Mirrer Yeshiva and in Telz in Europe, and then immigrated to Eretz Yisroel, where he learned at the yeshiva of his uncle, Rav Avrohom Yitzchok Kook. He subsequently became rov of Tiveriah.

Rav Nachum was known for his unbending stances regarding kavod hameis and all halacha issues. He was a beloved figure in his community, always conducting himself with dignity, humility and utmost grace.

The levaya was held earlier tonight in Ramat Gan.

Yehi zichro boruch.
