rav-nosson-tzvi-finkelYeshivas Mir Yerushalayim will be holding its twenty Second Annual Legacy Dinner tonight at the New York Brooklyn Marriot Hotel, with the participation of the Rosh Hayeshiva, Harav Nosson Tzvi Finkel. The reception will begin at 5 p.m., with the dinner at 6:30 p.m. The highlight of the evening will be the drasha given by Rav Nosson Tzvi. A special audio-visual presentation will be shown as well.

The Guest of Honor is Rav Yaakov Nayman, a longtime rov who resides in Lawrence, New York. Rav Nayman, who was born in May of 1909, lived through the most tumultuous and dramatic times of modern Jewish history, and was there when the Mirrer Yeshiva defined its place in that history, a period of time defined by faith, perseverance, and survival. Rav Nayman was born and resided in Brisk and learned under the Brisker Rov. After years of study among a chosen few in the home of the Brisker Rov and his marriage to his illustrious rebbetzin, Chaya a”h, the young couple moved to Baranovitch, where Rav Nayman studied in Yeshiva Ohel Moshe, led by Rav Elchonon Wasserman zt”l. After the war, Rav Nayman settled in Chicago, where he served as rov of a shul for nearly half a century, until he moved to the Five Towns about 18 years ago. Rav Nayman was not only a witness to the historic journey of the Mirrer Yeshiva, but played a vital role in infusing the Mir with the spirit and ability to go forward, expand, and indeed set the trend of Torah institutions in the postwar era.

At the dinner, the Harav Elya Boruch Finkel zt”l Harbotzas Torah Tribute will be accepted by his talmid, Rabbi and Mrs. Shaya Neuberg, maggid shiur in Mesivta Chaim Shlomo in Far Rockaway.

The Parents of the Year are Mr. and Mrs. Shmuel Reiser and Mrs. and Mrs. Allen Saka, who currently have sons learning in the Mir. The International Builders Legacy Award will be received by Mr. and Mrs. Mendy Friedman. The Builders Legacy Award will be given to Mr. and Mrs. Moshe Dov Stern. The Alumnus of the Year Award will be presented to Mr. and Mrs. Naftoli Kirzner and Mrs. and Mrs. Avrami Lieberman.

Today, the Mirrer Yeshiva in Eretz Yisroel, led with immense self-sacrifice of the Rosh Hayeshiva, Rav Nosson Tzvi, is a Torah base to upward of 5,000 talmidim. It is a fluid bastion of Torah scholarship and is at the pinnacle of leadership, emulated by so many other yeshivos and institutions. The Mir is now almost 200 years old.

Rav Finkel arrived in the United States last Monday and went to New York where he spent most of the week. His host was Reb Mendy Horowicz, whose home teemed with people who came to visit the Rosh Hayeshiva. On Tuesday, Rav Nosson Tzvi attended and addressed a gathering for alumni at the Bais Faiga Gratter Building.
