It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rav Pesach Eliyahu Falk zt”l, noted posek and mechaber seforim. He was 78 years old. Rav Falk suffered a severe heart attack that claimed his life.

Rav Falk delivered thousands of shiurim over the years in Gateshead, where he resided, teaching talmidim at the Yeshiva of Gateshead and talmidos of the Gateshead Seminary.

He authored many notable works, including Shailos Uteshuvos Machzeh Eliyahu and his Zachor Veshamor series on the laws of Shabbos. He also authored Oz Vehadar Levusha on the laws of tznius. His other works include Modesty: An Adornment for Life (1998), Modesty: An Adornment For Life: Day By Day, Chosson and Kallah during their Engagement (2000), Honoring Shabbos During the Week (1988), Halachos and Attitudes Concerning the Dress of Women and Girls (1993), and Sheitels: A Halachic Guide to Present-day Sheitels (2002).

  1. He was a Gaon Adir; one of a kind posek who tackled today’s most difficult halachic questions. His sefer, Machazeh Eliyahu is a classic. It will be around for generations to come, IY”H.

  2. BD’E -An Odom Godol Ad Me’od! Boki B’Halochoh, emersed in Torah-literally every second, exemplary middos and yiras shomayim….and with all this- the most patient and approachable person you could ever meet, with a sense of humour that made everyone he came in contact with just feel good!

His big early book on the halachot of tsniyut helped me so much. In addition to laying out the laws & customs, it introduced to me a whole different way of perceiving things, which still helps me today. Very sad about this loss.

  5. his teshuva sefer was so unbelievable to think it was written when rav falk was barely 40 years old look at the haskamos in the machzeh eliyahu
interesting fact is that many poskim noted for their klohr keit ALL TAUGHT IN GIRLS HS/ SEMINARIES
RAV FALK , DAYAN POSEN , RAV NEWIRTH SHEMIRA SHABAS KEHILCHOSO AND there is more

    • true. But if only the schools themselves would fully follow Rav Falks derech. Not only by indoctrination but to be creative in finding away so they can enforce it ; without any of their own strings attached.

  6. A giant warm open involved caring empathetic humble strong broad sensitive person who had a beautiful ayin tova which filtered his view of others so that it was both realistic and complimentary.

  7. BORUCH DAIYAN HAEMES!!

I am not from England and never was in Gateshead; however, I knew a couple of the Talmidim from the Gateshead Yeshiva. At an extremely terrible point in my life when my chronic illness condition got sharply worse, one of those Gateshead Talmidim advised me to contact Rav Falk, ZT’L. I thus wrote him a letter and followed up with a phone call. From his tone of voice, I could tell that he was severely pained at my virtual lifelong handicaps. Upon receiving my letter, he consulted a top Natural Medical specialist in his area about my case; she told him a diagnosis, and — on his expense — he sent over to me two Homeopathic medications that she prescribed.
