rav-shamshon-brodsky[Levaya info below.] It is with great sadness that we report the passing a few minutes ago of Rav Shamshon Brodsky zt”l, rov of Bais Medrash Rabbeinu Yaakov Moshe in Flatbush and one of the last remaining members of the Mirrer Yeshiva in Europe and the pre-war Slonimer Yeshiva.

As one who merited learning from and hearing shmuessen from Rav Yeruchem Levovitz zt”l, the renowned Mirrer mashgiach, and as a chavrusah of Rav Chaim Shmulevitz zt”l, the Mirrer rosh yeshiva, Rav Shamshon symbolized the greatness of the Mirrer Yeshiva and all of the prominent Lithuanian yeshivos.

Rav Shamshon served as a rov in the Bronx and later Flatbush, and as a mechanech as well as a menahel of a girls’ Bais Yaakov school.

He was a remarkable talmid chochom, with wide-ranging yedios in all areas of Shas and poskim. Rav Shamshon was, above all, a self-effacing gadol baTorah, who shunned the limelight all his life and carried himself with immense humility.

The passing of Rav Brodsky is a tremendous blow to the entire Olam HaTorah.

He was predeceased by his wife, Rebbetzin Rickel Brodsky a”h, who passed away several years ago. During the last period, Rav Brodsky, who formerly resided in Flatbush, Brooklyn, relocated to Lakewood, NJ.

He is survived by a large mishpacha of bnei and bnos Torah. His children include Rav Chaim Mendel Brodsky, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Zichron Shmayahu of Toronto; Rav Moshe Brodsky of Lakewood, executive director of Yeshiva Zichron Moshe of South Fallsburg; Mrs. Levovitz, wife of Rav Yaakov Levovitz, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Shaarei Bina in Ashdod; Mrs. Serebrowski, wife of Rabbi Peretz Serebrowski of Bensonhurst; and Mrs. Zuckerman, wife of Rabbi Pinchos Zuckerman of Detroit.

Levaya info will be posted shortly.

Yehi zichro boruch.

Update:

The levaya will be held this evening, at 6:30 p.m., at the Mirrer Yeshiva, located at the corner of Ocean Parkway and Avenue R in Flatbush, Brooklyn.

  3. Please include his very choshuv daughter Rebbetzin Gitel Levovitz, wife of HaGaon Rav Yaakov Levovitz, Rosh Yeshiva in Eretz Yisroel.

Rav Shimshon Brodsky Z’TL was the menahel of the Beth Jacob Beth Miriam Bais Yaakov of the West Bronx from 1958. I was a talmida there and Rav BrodskyZ’TL was one of the finest Tzaddik Gamur, one can ever be in contact with. He was always happy and smiling.
The BJBM and Yeshiva Zichron Moshe was founded by Rabbi Yeruchem Gorelik Z’TL. There were over 550 girls and over 300 boys bli ayin harah.
    YEHE ZICHRO BARUCH!

Is it please possible to put a link to hear the levaya directly? Thank you. Only simchas!

  7. An enormous loss to klal Yisroel. I will never forget the sound of him beginning “Hinenei” at the beginning of musaf when he was physically able to be shliach tzibbur on the Yomim Noraim.

  8. I was a student in YEshiva Zichron Moshe on Jessup Avenue in the
    Bronx in 1951 and 1952.
I was too young to understand his greatness in Torah.
As a child I did appreciate his warmth.

  9. I learnt in toronto @ his sons yeshiva and every few months the rosh yeshiva would host his father ztl, i thought this was so amazing. I also ate the shabbos seudos with him a few times since i was invited for meals while he was there, it was amazing to hear his memories from the old times

  11. What terrible news! He was my Rebbe and maguid shiur at yeshiva Birkas Ruven in Flatbush.

His humility and incredible midos always remided me that the he was like the Chofetz Chayim z’l.

A true Litvisher godol from the previous generation. I could never forget his passionate shiurim and how he knew bal peh
page after page of guemura and shulchan aruch.

    Gevald what a loss! ;(

  12. It is already more than 20 years since I was Zoche to recieve my Semicha from Rav Brodsky ZTKLLH’H, but I remained in contact with the late Rosh Yeshiva and was always inspired each time I spoke to him. I was so fortunate to be under his watch & tutelage at Yeshiva Birkas Reuven.

It was incredible that I was Zoche to be so close to such an amazing Baal Midos Tovos, and his Sever Ponim Yofos & countenance shall remain etched in my memory for all time.

  13. I was saddened to here of Rav Brodsky’ s death. He was my mother’s first cousin and spoke of him. They kept in contact for many years and then lost contact. I would like to contact his children. My mother was Helen Belman Barliant. We are his small Chicago family
