rav-shamshon-brodskyRav Shamshon Brodsky is currently in Toronto where he will be spending several weeks. Rav Brodsky, rov of Bais Medrash Rabbeinu Yaakov Moshe in Flatbush, is one of the last remaining members of the Mirrer Yeshiva in Europe and one of the remaining great talmidim of the pre-war Slonimer Yeshiva.

In Toronto, Rav Brodsky is staying at the home of his son, Rav Chaim Mendel Brodsky, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Gedolah Zichron Shmayahu of Toronto. Rav Chaim Mendel Brodsky is a son-in-law of Rav Nochum Partzovitz zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Mir Yerushalayim.

As one who merited learning from and hearing shmuessen from Rav Yeruchem Levovitz, the renowned Mirrer mashgiach, and as a chavrusah of Rav Chaim Shmulevitz, the Mirrer rosh yeshiva, Rav Shamshon symbolizes the greatness of the Mirrer Yeshiva and all of the prominent Lithuanian yeshivos.

Rav Shamshon has served as a rov in the Bronx and later Flatbush, and as a mechanech as well as a menahel of a girls’ Bais Yaakov school.

It is a tremendous chizuk for the Toronto community to be blessed with the presence of Rav Shamshon for the next few weeks.

  1. I was one of the first girls’ to study under Rav Brodsky Shlita, in the Beth Jacob Beth Miriam (Beis Yaakov) of the West Bronx, where he was the Kodesh Menahel for many long years.
The school was founded by Harav Yeruchem Gorelick Z’TL, who was the founding Principal of Zichron Moshe as well. They were talmidim of the original Mir Yeshiva, that were in Shanghai during the war years’ with Rav Soloveichik Z’TL. The Rav Shlita and his Reb Tichye are the most wonderful people. May they be gebenched with alter chaim tovim aruchim ve neeimim with an abundance of HAGEFEN! AMEN!

  2. Rav. Brodsky joined the “Mirrer Yeshiva” in 1935. He escaped with the Yeshiva in 1939 to Vilna and then to Kobe, Japan. In 1941 he went by boat along with R Yeruchem Gorelik Zt”l, R Yisroel Chaim KaplanZt”l, R Simcha Schepps Zt”l, to America. He went to Boston along with R Michel Feinstein Zt”l and others and joined a Chabura headed by R Y.B. Soleveitchik Zt”l untill 1943. Thereafter he assumed a Rabonus in the Bronx

  3. Rav Brodsky Shlita is from the last remaining talmidim of R Yeruchum Ztl – The others are R Chaim Scheinberg R Shimon Gitelis R Leib Baron R Gershon Yankelewitz (unsure about R Feivel Hollander)

  4. I too went to Bais Yaakov Bais Miriam in the Bronx. I dont know if we appreciated Rabbi Brodsky as kids but i certainly did later on in life.I taught for him in the school and I (a born and bred American)absorbed his hashkafos brought from the great yeshivos in Europe. Rabbi Brodsky had a bracha under my chupah and every time he was in Toronto i made an effort to see him. He is truly an impressive person. May he be zoche to health and long life.

  5. Rav Brodshy was the Menahal at Bais Yaakov Bais Miriam in the Bronx when I attended between 1969-1972. He made a big difference in my life that still have a positive impact in my life today.
