It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rav Shimon Breisch zt”l, one of the leaders of the Agudas Achim kehillah in Zurich, Switzerland. He was 96.

Rav Shimon was the eldest son of Rav Mordechai Yaakov Breisch, the Chelkas Yaakov, rov of Zurich. He was born before World War II, when his father served as rov of the city of Duisburg in Germany. He learned in Montreux, where he was friends and chavrusos with Rav Aharon Leib Shteinman.

Rav Shimon was one of the leaders of the Agudas Achim kehillah in Zurich and a maggid shiur for fifty years. He was known as an outstanding talmid chochom who inspired many toward limud haTorah.

He recently weakened and passed away on Friday afternoon in London while staying with his daughter.

He is survived by a prestigious family. His eldest son, Rav Chaim zt”l, was Rosh Yeshiva in London. His sons-in-law include Rav Avraham Yehoshua Soloveitchik, Rosh Yeshivas Brisk, Rav Chaim Feinstein, Rosh Yeshivas Ateret Shlomo, Rav Moshe Berezovsky, Rosh Yeshivas Slonim, Rav Shmuel Berger of Stamford Hill, and Rav Shimshon Weiss of Lakewood.

His sons include Rav Aharon, one of the roshei yeshiva of the Chernobyl Yeshiva, and Rav Yisrael, from the Gush Shmonim neighborhood of Yerushalayim. He also leaves behind hundreds of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His brother, the late Rav Shaul Breisch, rov of Zurich, passed away a couple of years ago.

The levayah was held in London and the aron will arrive in Eretz Yisroel today. Due to it being the month of Nissan, there will be no hespeidim.
