It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rav Shimon Yehuda Leib Mandel zt”l, R”M at Yeshiva of Staten Island.

Rav Mandel served as a rebbi at Yeshiva of Staten Island for over 30 years, teaching, guiding and inspiring talmidim. Rav Mandel spent his life between the walls of the bais medrash, immersed in limud haTorah and being marbitz Torah with palpable ahavas haTorah.

His ahavas Yisroel and ahavas Hashem made a profound impact on his talmidim, and his ever-present smile and good cheer offered chizuk to anyone he encountered.

The levayah will be held today at 10:15 a.m. at Yeshiva of Staten Island, located at 1870 Drumgoole Road, Staten Island, NY. The levayah will then continue at the Congregation Sons of Israel Holocaust Memorial Chapel, located at 613 Ramsey Street in Lakewood, NJ, followed by kevurah in the adjacent bais hachaim.

Yehi zichro boruch.

  1. Please share call-in information. This was a man who has been living in the oilam haelyon for the 25 years that I knew him. He poshut never lived in this world. I was zocheh to be in his close proximity for a short period and I can’t think of anyone else who I have encountered in my life who emanated such kedusha. He was a ba’al meya’etz the likes of which I have never seen, yet he was so removed from oilam hazeh that his eitzos had to have been the dvar hashem. This is a travesty of epic proportions. He wasn’t well known but I am sure anyone who knew him could attest to everything above. Yehi zichro boruch.

    • The biggest travesty is that he was such a tzaddik and most of us didn’t get to know or hear about him. When pple say there are no tzaddikim, or that you can find tzaddikim in every corner of yerushalayim (which is true) it always confused me; but during the last few months we’ve been hearing about pple; from corona, without corona etc that have been nifter and unbelievable the kind of stories or hashpaos they have passed on.
