  1. Baruch Dayan haEmes. I used to daven at the Hashkama minyan there on Shabbos – it started early, but unlike many other Hashkama Minyanim, they didn’t speed through Davening – it was at a normal pace. The Rav, ZT”L, used to come down and say a vort every Shabbos at the kiddush after davening, after which many – if not most – of the mispalelim would stick around to learn for a bit.

  2. בקרוב אקדש, as we’ll read in tomorrow’s קריאה. Small in physical stature but a super giant in his persona! What a loss. יהי זכרו ברוך

  3. A Tzadik! A Manhig! An advocate here and up there!
What will be dor all those who lean and rely on him? For all the boys and men who are struggling with themselves???
    Oy Gevalt!!!

  4. Adam gadol b’anokim! The world will not be the same without Rav Herbst ZT’L. He gave chizuk to hundreds of people and his heart carried so many people’s pain. The walls of his Beis Medrash are saturated with so much Torah, Avoda and Gemilas Chasodim. Always had a good word and everyone felt at home there. May his Rebetzin and family have a nechama from this big loss. She was his partner in everything he did. He will surely be a meilitz yosher for his family, his Kehillah, and all of Klal Yisroel.

  5. Ma Nomar Ma Nidaber.
One of the holiest Jews we have lost.
Made himself into a nothing but anyone who came into contact with him saw immediately what he was. A holy Jew with a huge heart and ahavas yisroel
Where can one start describing what he did. All the Torah that was learned in his beis medrash. How he pushed chavrusashafts and even went out of his way to find chavrusos for people and shtil aheit paid them to learn so someone looking to learn was properly set up. His mispalilim are even saintly. His program he had every Friday night for the boys in the community that were nebach lost. He stayed up every Friday night with them sometimes till 2-3 am. His davening on RH and YK. His face had an angelic radiance that was awed by all. His not wavering from what he saw by his rebbe and manhig the bobover Ruv Reb Shlomo ztl.
I can go on and on as I type this I am crying because of what I (we) klal yisroel have lost.

  6. My heart broke when I found out he was niftar. I was very close to r herbst z”tl for many years. He has non stop since ive know him helped people even when it was at his own cost. He would take money out of his own pocket money he didnt have to help another person in need, even when ome of his children was getting married. His Friday night “chill”, a place where struggling teens were able to go and feel safe instead of out on the streets getting into trouble. R Herbst was a pioneer in helping troubled teens, at a time when most others ignored that there even was an issue, at a time when noone wanted to deal with Jewish teenagers off the derech. I know all this because I was one of those teens, and if it wasn’t for R Herbst I am confident that I would not be alive today. B”H Many more will follow the example he set and not allow the troubled teens of am yisrael to be left behind. I have no doubt that R Herbst was recieved into gan Eden elyon instantly.
