It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rav Shlomo Maklev zt”l, a longtime member of Kollel Chazon Ish in Bnei Brak, who passed away at Sheba Hospital in Tel Hashomer. He was 88 years old.

Rav Shlomo was born in Petach Tikva, a son of Reb Dovid Maklev, who was an accountant with the Petach Tikva municipality.

Rav Shlomo learned at Yeshiva Be’er Yaakov, under the famed mashgiach Rav Shlomo Wolbe, and at the Lomza Yeshiva in Petach Tikva.

He married his wife, Chava Yehudis, a Holocaust survivor who immigrated to Eretz Yisroel. She passed away at a relatively young age.

Rav Shlomo subsequently remarried and he became a fixture at Kollel Chazon Ish, a well known as a masmid of unique proportions.

In the early years of his marriage, he was one of the people who hid Yossele Shumacher in his home, and was even imprisoned for doing so together with Rav Chaim Wosner.

All his life, he sat and learned Torah, and was a listening ear for the oppressed and the depressed. When one of his grandchildren went to Maran Rav Chaim Kanievsky to ask for a bracha, Rav Chaim answered him, “Ask your grandfather. His power of bracha is greater than mine.”

Rav Shlomo leaves behind a large family, with many descendants following in his footsteps.

The levayah is being held at his home on Yehuda Halevi St. in Bnei Brak, passing Kollel Chazon Ish en route to the Shomer Shabbos Zichron Meir Bais Hachaim in Bnei Brak for kevurah there.

Yehi zichro boruch.
