It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rav Shlomo Walder zt”l, one of the pillars of the Haifa community and the gabbai and administrator of Yeshiva Tiferes Yisroel in Haifa. He was 86.

Rav Shlomo, who lived in the Hadar HaCarmel neighborhood in Haifa, was known as a very generous man who founded the first chesed organization in Haifa called Yad L’nitzrach, helping families with food for Shabbos and the sick and their families in hospitals.

He served as an administrator of the Tiferes Yisroel Yeshiva in Haifa for decades, dating back to the time of the rosh yeshiva, Rav Raphael Shapira.

In recent years, he became weaker and was hospitalized. Tuesday morning, he passed away.

He leaves behind his wife, sons and daughters, and grandchildren.

Half a year ago, his son, writer Chaim Walder, died.

He was also predeceased by his grandson, Reb Meir Zvi Walder, passed away after an illness.

The levayah was held at his home on Rechov Rav Maimon in Haifa, then at Yeshiva Tiferes Yisroel, followed by kevurah at the Sdei Yehoshua Bais Hachaim.

  1. A very special individual. I remember him fondly from my year at Yeshivat Tiferet HaCarmel (a yeshiva gedola and kollel and sister school to Yeshavat Tiferet Yisrael). He He always went above and beyond to ensure the needs of the talmidim were taken care of, and he did it b’sever panim Yafot.
