Rav Shlomo Zilberstein zt”l

Rav Shlomo Zilberstein zt”l, the head of the Gerrer kehillah in Bnei Brak, was niftar yesterday shortly before the onset of Shabbos. He was 80. Thousands attended the levaya held tonight, Motzoei Shabbos, in Bnei Brak. 

Rav Shlomo was known as one of the most prominent chassidim of the fifth Gerrer Rebbe, Rav Yisroel Alter zt”l, the Bais Yisroel, and had a very close relationship with the Rebbe.

The present Gerrer Rebbe, Rav Yaakov Aryeh Alter, attended the levaya for over an hour, which is quite rare for him, demonstrating the tremendous esteem in which the niftar was held.

Among the maspidim was Rav Shlomo’s son, Rav Aryeh, who serves as rov in Kiryat Gat.
