It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rav Shmaryahu Shulman zt”l.

Rav Shulman was born in Brooklyn, NY, a son of R’ and Mrs. Pinchos Eliyahu Shulman.

Rav Shulman first learned at Yeshiva Torah Vodaas and was one of the early talmidim of Yeshivas Ner Yisroel under Rav Yaakov Yitzchok Ruderman and at Bais Medrash Govoah in Lakewood, NJ under Rav Aharon Kotler. Rav Shulman was regarded as one of the leading talmidim of Rav Ruderman and received semicha from him. He shared a very close relationship with many other gedolim of the previous generation, among them Rav Moshe Feinstein, who addresses Rav Shulman in many of his teshuvos.

He published many seforim, including Be’er Sarim, Shomer Hapesach, Shomer Mitzvah, Sukas Shalem, Meirish Babirah, and Kanfei Hanesher.

Rav Shulman served as a rov at Kesher Israel and then Shomrei Shabbos in Washington, DC, and then in Jersey City, New Jersey. He lived in Kew Gardens Hills, Queens, for about sixty years before he relocated to Lakewood, NJ some years ago and settled at the Lakewood Courtyard. He was a member of the Agudas Harabbonim of the US and Canada.

Rav Shulman was an outstanding talmid chochom with knowledge of Shas and poskim. His petirah is a loss to the Olam HaTorah.

The levayah will be held tomorrow and the aron will be taken to Eretz Yisroel for kevurah there.

Yehi zichro boruch.
