Rav Shmuel Auerbach Celebrates 85th Birthday

rav shmuel auerbachFollowing the tefillos of Yom Kippur, Rav Shmuel Auerbach, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Maalos Hatorah in Yerushalayim, immediately made Havdallah in the bais medrash. After partaking of some mezonos, Rav Auerbach learned for several hours. He was then joined by talmidim for a seudah at his home. The meal marked his 85th birthday, which fell on the night of Yom Kippur.

Rav Auerbach, born in 1930, is the eldest son of Rav Shlomo Zalman and Rebbetzin Chaya Rivka (Ruchamkin) Auerbach. He was born in the Yerushalayim neighborhood of Sha’arei Chesed, as was his father. He was married to Rebbetzin Rochel (Paksher), who passed away in 1990. They did not have children. He named his mussar sefer Ohel Rochel in her memory.

Rav Auerbach is the rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Maalot HaTorah and the nosi of Yeshivas Medrash Shmuel and Yeshivas Toras Simcha in Yerushalayim. For a short time, he served as one of the roshei yeshiva of Yeshivas Itri in Yerushalayim. He resides in the Sha’arei Chesed neighborhood of Yerushalayim.
