Maran Rav Aharon Leib Shteinman was asked what can people be mechazeik in as Hurricane Sandy threatens the northeast.
Rav Shteinman’s response was “to be mechazeik in shemiras Shabbos.”
When asked what area in particular should be strengthened, he said that people should make sure that eruvin they rely on are 100% kosher.
The question was posed by residents of Lakewood, New Jersey.
Rav Shteinman has, in the past, encouraged people to be mechazeik in shemiras Shabbos when in need of a zechus or shemirah. Rav Shteinman has particularly encouraged people to take upon themselves to be mekabel Shabbos early as a zechus for siyata diShmaya and brachos.

The trouble makers in Boro Park who started this Eruv movement in order to be Mechallel Shabbos aught to be ashamed of themselves! Maybe this storm is coming because of them!

Unfortunatly, people are using the Minchas Elazer as an excuse to rely on and encourage relying on eruvin that less than 100% kosher.
