Maran Rav Aharon Leib Shteinman is gradually improving, but he remains at the Intensive Care Unit at Mayanei Hayeshua Medical Center and will likely not return home today, says his physician, Dr. Avrohom Weinberg.

The Torah world continues to closely follow with concern Rav Shteinman’s health situation. .

The director of Intensive Care at the hospital, Dr. Eliyahu Sorkin, said that “the situation has stabilized and improved, and now we are seeing a positive direction, boruch Hashem, but we cannot release him yet to his home or place him in a regular ward. He requires close monitoring.”

“I believe that within three days,” added Sorkin, “the rosh yeshiva will be transferred to a regular ward. The rosh yeshiva is not connected to a respirator, but is connected to the device that provides a certain amount of oxygen to address the shortness of breath he had been experiencing.”

Sorkin added, “The rosh yeshiva is alert. He has a sense of humor and occasionally tells us interesting things. With the help of Hashem, we will see good things.”

Sorking, previously ran the ICU at Ichilov Hospital and is currently the director of the department at Maayanei Hayeshuah.

Meanwhile, the Torah world continues to learn Torah and recite Tehillim as a zechus for Rav Shteinman.

The current situation began when the senior rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Orchos Torah and Yeshiva Gaon Yaakov in Bnei Brak was taken on Sunday to Mayanei Hayeshua Medical Center for a battery of tests. Medical examinations were performed due to fears of pneumonia, and the rosh yeshiva was started on a regimen of antibiotic treatment.

As reported yesterday, Rav Shteinman davened Shacharis this morning kevosikin in his room at Maayanei Hayeshuah.

Rav Shteinman is in the Intensive Care Unit because, Dr. Weinberg explained, the centenarian gadol can receive more comprehensive treatment there; the ICU location is not necessarily reflective of his health status, he explained.

As previously reported, in recent days, glass windows were installed on the porch of Rav Shteinman’s home to allow him to light the menorah there without having to be exposed to the elements, such as chilly weather, outside. However, at this point, it is not clear that Rav Shteinman will even return home prior to the end of Chanukah for his to benefit for the new installation.

All are asked to daven for Rav Aharon Yehudah Leib ben Gittel Faiga.
