reb_moshe_shternbuch1Exclusive: In response to a request for clarification of the views of Rav Moshe Shternbuch,  Rosh Av Bais Din of the Eidah Hachareidis, on the current rioting connected with the arrest of a mother suspected of abusing her child, Rabbi Daniel Eidensohn has shared with Matzav.com that he was authorized to report the following in Rav Shternbuch’s name. We thank Rabbi Eidensohn for clarifying this matter for us.

Rav Shternbuch maintains that the rioting is wrong and he has condemned the demonstrators as being “mushugoyim.” He said that it was, in fact, the duty of the hospital to report their findings to the authorities and thus they acted appropriately. He criticized the talk about boycotting the hospital in retaliation. He said it makes no sense and, is, in fact, “very self-damaging.”

Rav Shternbuch asserted that the real point of contention is not whether this woman is guilty or innocent, but rather the way the police have dealt with her, chaining her hands and feet. If, in fact, it is true – as the police have claimed – that this woman is mentally ill, she should not have been placed in a cell together with dangerous criminals.

The reason that Rav Shterbuch hasn’t issued a statement for the street or put up wall posters is simply because he knows that he has very little influence on the people who are rioting. They don’t accept his authority. There are other people who wield more influence, but they have yet to be convinced that the police have justification for what they have done. Rav Shternbuch is doing what he can behind the scenes to end the confrontation.

  1. There are other people who wield more influence, but they have yet to be convinced that the police have justification for what they have done.
    ===================
Yilamdeinu rabbeinu, even if the police were not justified, how this mattirs destroying others property and injuring individuals with no involvement?
    She-nir’eh et nehamat Yerushalayim u-binyanah bi-mherah ve-yamenu

  2. SO I’m not crazy! They are!

Also note that the askonim are in midst of trying to get funding restored to the Yeshivas and these riots make it that much harder.
The Askonim say a true Torah education is worth funding. The chilonim say if this is the outcome of Torah education, we won’t fund!

  3. I HEARD THAT RAV YISROEL BELSKY SENT A FAX TO THE TOLDOS AHRON REBBE IN SUPPORT OF THE PROTESTS OF HIS CHASSIDIM FOR HE SAYS THE CHILD WAS NEVER ABUSED AND ITS A LIBEL

  4. finally .. sanity

lets hope he issues similar statement regarding same meshugoyim rioting on shabbos and motzai shabbos

    enough allready

  5. “The reason that Rav Shterbuch hasn’t issued a statement for the street or put up wall posters is simply because he knows that he has very little influence on the people who are rioting.”

If the Eidah put up posters protesting the parking lot, it can also put up posters condemning the violence and the thugs who are portesting.

  6. A car with a loudspeaker and ink on paper is needed to get the word out in Eretz Yisroel. To have an opinion that is shared with one (Rav Eidensohn) just doesn’t slice the cake. Let it be known and whether riots stop or not, at least residents will be well informed.

  7. If the Rabi was realy against this riots – he should have said it publicly to all the haredim!! but he didn’t!!!
So for us non-religious it is just a poor excuse!!!

  8. emes:

    You hear – I hear.

I knew the parents of R’ Belsky, shlita, and he is a very careful and proper person – truly a Gadol and a Posek.

I am sure that if Rav Belsky wants to state a position on the situation that he will do it in a public and authoritative way – not “by fax.”

The “I hear this…that…the other” without confirmation are part of the problems we face in our community. Gossiping is a major cause of lashon hara and motzei shem ra. As the Chofetz Chaim states, one of the motives of such speech is the desire to be paid attention to because one has important and unique information.

When the text of such a fax is published in an authoritative manner, then we can believe it.

  9. This is true. They didn’t listen to Rav Shturnbuch SHLITA, when he said they SHOULD demonstrate against the “Toeiva parade” and they are not listening now either! A terrible lack of Kavod Hatorah R”L!

  10. TO # 10

WHEN THE VIDEO IS RELEASED SHOWING THE ABUSE THEN WE WILL BELEIVE IT!
I HEARD FROM SOMEONE IN CAMP AGUDAH WHERE HE IS VERY RELIABLE AND HIS POINT WASNT TO THE PUBLIC SO HE WOULDNT HAVE TO GET UP AND SAY IT AS YOU THINK HE SHOULD IT WAS A LETTER FROM HIM TO THE TOLDOS AHRON REBBE NOT TO YOU
KNOWING HIS PARENTS I GUESS WAS A NICE FACT TO KNOW RACHEL R KNOWS RAV BELSKYS PARENTS VERY NICE IM STILL TRYING TO WORK OUT WHAT SHAICHIS TO THE STORY OKAY

  11. to URIEL # 9

the rabbi has said this many times on different ocassions, most recently there was an article in the Israeli mishpacha with a long statment from Rabbi Sternbuch where he strongly condemded any types of voilence by demonstrations.he went so far to say that anyone who does these acts of violence shows that he doesnt belong to our community

  12. Rachel R.
YOU NEED TO SEEK MENTAL ASSISTANCE IMMEDEATLY!!

YOU SUFFER FROM A SIRIOS DESEASE!!

    IT’S CALLED: ANTI-EIDA SYNDROME.

  13. Dear Eitor
Maybe you can ask Rabbi Daniel Eidensohn the following Questions:
What’s Rav Weiss’ GAVAD’s Daas Torah?
    Rav Frankel?
    Rav Rosenberger?
    And So on.

    YOU WILL BE SURPRISED.

[Could be They’ll condemn the violence, But even they know its unformidable they wont stop it.]

REMEMBER!! All Rabonim and Gdolim Have a Daas Torah, even if they sometimes don’t agree with Daas Bal Habayes…

  14. guys, stop and think what we are saying agreeing to
    1) we are willing to beleive anon bloggers who know very Ehrilich yidden in Aggudah, Toldos Ahron and Rav Belskys office who no one can actually mention or specify

    2) we are suggesting a blood libel against a child who has been in and out of hospital for a VERY long period of time (well before the car park issue started)

3)The authorities only arrested her after they tries to get her to take a physc exam that the family refused to allow.

What happens if they are right and she then harms someone else? what then? you will blame the authorities for doig nothing!
