rav-wosnerRav Shmuel Halevi Wosner, author of the Shevet Halevi and rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Chachmei Lublin in Bnei Brak, has celebrated his 101st birthday.

Rav Wosner was born in 1913 in Vienna, Austria. He learned in the famous Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin in Poland led by Rav Meir Shapiro, and married and moved to Eretz Yisroel before World War II, living in Yerushalayim where he learned at the Dushinsky Yeshiva. Despite his young age, he became a member of the Eidah Hachareidis.

When Rav Wosner moved to the Zichron Meir neighborhood of Bnei Brak, at the urging of the Chazon Ish, the Tchebiner Rov, Rav Isser Zalman Meltzer and others, he established his Yeshiva Chachmei Lublin, bearing the same name as the one in Lublin where he had learned in his youth.

On his birthday, Rav Wosner maintained his regular seder hayom, including learning with his chavrusah, Rav Moshe Shaul Klein. He made a lechayim with close members of his family in honor of his birthday milestone.

May Hakadosh Boruch Hu give Rav Wosner kochos and gezunt for many, many more years.

  1. Why don’t you let the Gedolei Yisrael live! Why broadcast this to invite Ayin Horah. Time after time after these broadcasts Rav Kupelman zl Rav Elyashiv zl Rav Chaim Pinchos Scheinberg zl etc. Every time it is broadcasted soon after ZL We need our Gedolim!!!!

  2. Please remove this post immediately. Its not our way to flaunt our blessings. Rav Wosner should be well for many more years, please don’t ask for aniy hora. What good can come from posting this?

  3. Why broadcast? Perhaps the Kiddush Hashem that results from us seeing Gedolei Torah flourishing in old age. Perhaps to contradict society’s view of the elderly as “has been”.

  4. I agree with #1!! Mazel Tov and may he live a hundred+ more years, but should we not steer away from trouble? The article does not even say bli A”H – and anyway, those close to the Rav were no doubt invited to the event, everyone else does not need to know the exact dates! May he live in health and strength a hundred+ years more, amen.

  5. Correction! I agree with #1 and #2. I did not see the previous comments.
Dear #3, it can and should be achieved without exact dates! At least this is how i was taught, I am sure there are different opinions, but please, our ignorant common sense should hardly enter the equation. If some suggest it’s best to publish exact birthdates, please quote. I never heard.

  6. Fools above! This is a 101 year old Torah soul serving Israel! Living to be over 100 is life with Trust in Hashem!!! Torah is not about hiding faces!!

If you are a jew who has not met Rabbi Wosner, this gives you FAITH!

I can now improve my prayers for Israel!

Torah never means hiding in the dark!

You can not think that evil wins when the pure seek to show their elections!

I more can now think of the great chassidim while they are alive. And I can wish him 120 years of life today!

Baruch Hashem. Our torah leaders can be seen!

    Rods for out soul!!
