rav-wosnerRav Shmuel Halevi Wosner, author of the Shevet Halevi and rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Chachmei Lublin in Bnei Brak, departed Eretz Yisroel yesterday for Austria, where he will rest. In the past, Rav Wosner had gone to Switzerland for a brief break from his taxing schedule. He has now gone instead to Austria.

Upon his departure yesterday, a group of talmidim from his yeshiva, Yeshiva Chachmei Lublin, accompanied him from his home with singing and dancing. He gave the talmidim a bracha and then left.

Rav Wosner will be staying in Austria for about two and a half weeks.

Rav Wosner, who is 98, was actually born in Vienna, Austria, in 1913. He learned in the famous Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin in Poland led by Rav Meir Shapiro.  He married and moved to Eretz Yisroel before World War II, and lived in Yerushalayim where he learned at the Dushinsky Yeshiva. Despite his young age, he became a member of the Eidah Hachareidis.

When Rav Wosner moved to Bnei Brak, at the urging of the Chazon Ish, the Tchebiner Rov, Rav Isser Zalman Meltzer and others, he established his Yeshiva Chachmei Lublin, bearing the same name as the one in Lublin where he had learned in his youth.
