It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rav Yaakov Busel zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Rabbeinu Yaakov Yosef of Edison, NJ.

Rav Busel led the Edison Yeshiva together with his longtime shutaf, Rav Chaim Yosef Eichenstein.

Rav Busel’s first rebbetzin, Rasia a”h, was a daughter of Rav Boruch Sorotzkin, rosh yeshiva of Telshe Yeshiva in Cleveland. She passed away in 1998.

Rav Busel was loved by generations of Edison talmidim, who cherished their kesher with the rosh yeshiva. An outstanding talmid chochom, Rav Busel devoted his life to harbotzas haTorah, always immersed in limud haTorah no matter what trials or tribulations presented themselves.

He had a unique ability to connect with bochurim, and with softness and caring, he inspired them toward further aliyah in Torah and avodas Hashem.

Rav Busel battled serious illness during the last period, and a name, Chaim, was added as a zechus. His neshomah was taken to the Yeshiva Shel Maalah this morning.

Rav Busel is survived by his wife, Rebbetzin Esther Busel, as well as his children, all outstanding bnei and bnos Torah, and grandchildren.

The levayah will be held at 3 p.m. at Yeshiva Rabbeinu Yaakov Yosef, located at 1 Plainfield Avenue in Edison, NJ, and is expected to last for approximately 3 hours, with halvayas hameis at 6 p.m. Attendees are requested to wear masks and practice social distancing throughout the duration of the levayah. The aron will then be flown to Eretz Yisroel for kevurah on Har Hamenuchos in Yerushalayim.

Yehi zichro boruch.
