Rav Gershon Edelstein, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Ponovezh in Bnei Brak, fainted this morning and was taken to Maayanei Hayeshuah Medical Center in Bnei Brak.

The incident occurred during the reading of the Megillah at a minyan held at Rav Edelstein’s house on Rechov Raavad in Bnei Brak.

Paramedics arriving at the scene observed that Rav Edelstein was suffering from high blood pressure and immediately brought him to the hospital.

Rav Edelstein underwent a battery of tests and was released to his home several hours later.

His son, Rav Tzvi Yehuda Edelstein, lained the Megillah for his father from the spot at which the kriah had been interrupted when Rav Edelstein passed out.

As reported earlier, Rav Gershon’s brother, Rav Yaakov Edelstein, the venerated rov of Ramat Hasharon who has been hospitalized at Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer for the last month, underwent surgery Thursday afternoon.

Doctors at the hospital say they are satisfied with the way the procedure went, but stress that the next few days are critical and they will be monitoring Rav Yaakov very closely.

All are asked to continue davening for the two brothers, Rav Yerachmiel Gershon ben Miriam and Rav Yaakov ben Miriam.
