It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rav Yaakov Koppel Barminka zt”l. He was 94.

Rav Yaakov Koppel was one of the founders of the community of Komemiyus, Israel.

Rav Yaakov Koppel was born in Romania to a family of Vizhnitzer Chassidim. His parents were Rav Shimon and Sarah. He was named after Rav Yaakov Koppel Chossid, the progenitor of the Vizhnitz-Kosov chain and a talmid of the Baal Shem Tov.

After immigrating to Israel, Rav Yaakov Koppel was one of the founders of the kehillah of Komemiyus together with Rav Binyomin Mendelson, and throughout his life, hand in hand with Rav Mendelson, he promoted the mitzvah of Shmittah across the country and gave his life for the sake of its observance.

Throughout the years, he served as the shamash at the main shul in Komemiyus, tending devotedly to all the needs of the kehillah.

All his life, he sat and learned Torah and at the central shul in Komemiyus. He maintained a close relationship with the admorim of Vizhnitz, the Imrei Chaim and the Yeshuos Moshe.

He is survived by his son, Rav Shimon, and his daughter, whose husband, Rav Eliezer Vind, is the mashbak of the Belzer Rebbe.

The levayah was held at the Vizhnitzer bais hachaim in Bnei Brak, where he was buried alongside his wife.

Yehi zichro boruch.
