It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rav Yaakov Pinchos Shir zt”l, longtime Ashkenazi rov of Kfar Saba, Israel, who passed away shortly before Shabbos at age 86.
Born in Poland, Rav Shir immigrated to Israel at the age of 12. In his youth, he learned is Yeshivas Chevron.
After his marriage to his wife, Rebbetzin Chaya Esther, he settled in Nesher, near Haifa, where he subsequently served as rov for 20 years. He then accepted the rabbonus in Kfar Saba, where he served as rov for 33 years for the Ashkenazi community there. During his tenure as rov, Rav Shir raised the level of shemiras Shabbos, kashrus and chinuch in the city.
The levaya was held last night at the home of his daughter in Bnei Brak, followed by kevurah in Sanhedriah, Yerushalayim.
