yeshaya-dovid-bayerIt is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rav Yeshaya Dovid Bayer zt”l, the longtime menahel of Yeshiva Bais Dovid of Monsey, NY. He was 77.

A crowd of hundreds gathered last night, Motzoei Shabbos, for the levaya, which was held at Yeshiva Bais Dovid, on West Maple Avenue in Monsey.

Rav Bayer was born in Cologne, Germany. When the Nazis came to power, he was sent by his parents to England in the famed Kindertransport.

Rav Bayer was a mechanech from the old school who led Bais Dovid with his distinct approach, witnessing generations of young bnei Torah pass through the portals of the mosad. Together with his colleague, Rav Mordechai Don Waldman, Rav Bayer led Yeshiva Bais Dovid. He served as menahel there for some 50 years.

Rav Bayer suffered a heart attack not long ago and did not recover.

Rav Bayer leaves behind twelve children, all of whom are following the path of Torah and yiras Shomayim.

At the levaya last night, hespeidim  were delivered by Rav Moshe Green, Rav Refoel Schorr, Rav Yisroel Simcha Schorr and Rav Chaim Shea Teitelbaum. Kevurah took place at the Skverer bais hachaim.

Yehi zichro boruch.

  1. What’s happening here? every other day another tragedy Chas Vesholom?
why aren’t our Gedolim who are still left guide us as what to do?

I am NO Godol but Hashem is obviously trying to send us a loud and clear message, is it because of Loshon Hora, Shabbos, We should stop talking during Davening, bettering our Tznius, We should be kind to each other, or what ever else, Who knows? but lets wake up and do Teshuva, OH YES we are in ELUL the perfect time of the year.

The past year was a very difficult one for Klall Yisroel, we lost so many of our Gedolim our leaders from all walks of life in Klall Yisroel, but never the less we have to strengthen ourselves and get closer to Hashem improving our Mitzvos so he can speed up the Geulah.

Lets all try improving our Midos together with our Tefilos and Tznius etc. to make the next year a “sweet new year” in Eretz Yisroel with the Bais HaMikdosh.

  2. What a gem of a person!
He was the quintessential Mekaabel Ess Kol Adam Bsayver Ponim Yafos.
May he be a maylitz for us all before the Kisay Hakavod.

  3. the amount of gedolim leaving this world keeps on growing R”L & sadly many of them were niftar in their 70’s & 80’s

soon everyone will get this list of R”L of 95 gedolim niftar recently over a short period of time of only 16 months.

then we will all be asking how could we have not gotten Hashems message.

MATZAV let me know when your ready for me to send you this list with the dates of niftar & their age & where they were rav or gadol

may these tragedies stop ASAP we need our gedolim to keep us in yiddishkeit in todays generation of technology… & many other issues
let us all do something to stop this from happening.

  4. A point of note!
He had returned home from being mssoid his special, dear friend Rav Yankel Horowitz of Monsey and was so aggitated that he suffered a heart attack from which he didn’t recover as noted in the story.
    So Sad!

  8. B”H

Lived near the shortcut the Rav took to the mikvah and davening on Shabbos. He was always a ba’al madrega. If I was down, without words he was supportive with a look of ahavah. If I was up, he was receptive. I moved away a month before the Rav’s petirah, and was shaken upon later hearing of it. I had no idea he was the menhal of Bais Dovid thoughout this period. He was such an anaf – a practitioner in the derech of Moshe Rabbeinu.
